Back to the Start

Well, for as far as we’ve come, we’ve learned a lot about health and healing and also about acceptance and perseverance.  Thank God we have had lots of time to consider what’s most important when it comes to Type 1 Diabetes.   Last year, I would have told you that it’s most important to be OFF of insulin.  But that was my hope and prayer.  I truly believed that Lily could heal….and truly, if it’s God’s will, I am sure that she would have or will in the future.  However, we have to deal with what IS….right now….not what I wish or want or desire for her….but how to make the best of the current circumstance.  Currently, Lily is only on Novolog…but because of her age and hormones kicking in, her numbers fluxuate greatly.  Lately, she’s gotten another small cold and now the numbers are high again.  I’m thinking it’s time for the long acting insulin as well so we don’t have to deal with interim highs….my only fear is her getting too low.

Too add to all the fun and confusion, the D.O. that Lily sees is suggesting that we go back to a specialist and get her insulin needs squared away since he is not an expert with the insulin schedule.  I hate to go back to where we started.  However, I really have no choice since we do need to get her numbers more stable and we need to be able to adjust her insulin schedule for school or home at any given time.

So today, I’m finding a new specialist at the same clinic we started at.  I am hoping that it won’t cost an arm and a leg considering that we have no insurance, however, the hospital has a sliding pay scale, so I’m not too concerned.  I just wish things were easier (there’s that wish word again!)…

Anyway, that’s the scoop for the day.  Other than that, I’m hoping that the spring comes soon….snow days are getting old here….I’m ready for sunshine and long walks!!!

Hope you all are doing well and I’ll check back in soon.
