April Update

Hi Friends….it’s been a while once again.  Life just seems to slip through my fingers these days.  I wanted to update you all on Lily’s situation.  Let me first say, she’s still on insulin.  I haven’t lost hope, but I’ve settled in and I’m happy that my girl is healthy and maintaining good numbers with healthy eating.  Summer is on it’s way and she will be doing lots of traveling….so begins a new chapter….learning to be independent AND diabetic.  Not sure I’m ready for this, but I’m gonna take a deep breath, give her the tools she needs, and hope to God she begins to fly.  It’s a scary thing to think that my daughter will have to take care of herself one day.  All the horror stories about type 1 don’t help.  But I know that God is in control and I believe that Lily will be able to navigate well through this sea of blood sugar highs and lows.  She’s a smart cookie (ha!)….that’s an almond flour cookie with agave nectar or stevia, of course:)

Yep, we are still doing the diet for the most part.  She occasionally deviates, like most teens, but the great thing is that she is very sensitive to her body’s signals when it comes to food.  I think the diet makes you sensitive that way.  I think it’s a good thing.  She is very in tune with her highs AND lows, so that does give me some peace of mind.  Other than that, I’ve just been busy raising the girls and preparing for one in high school next year.  I feel so old.  But I feel like we are more in control than ever….yes, even with insulin.

More to come….
