Erectile Dysfunction Symptoms

Erectile dysfunction or impotence is considered the inability to gain or keep an erection for a period of time. The period of time can be two days or two years, but if an erection cannot be obtained or kept, you may have erectile dysfunction or impotence, also called ED. Erectile dysfunction affects 1 in 7 men under the age of 50 and 2 in 8 men over the age of 50. Underlying causes of erectile dysfunction includes but is not limited to obesity, smoking, heart disease, stroke and atherosclerosis as well as diabetes and prostate disorders. Many doctors use ED pumps or penis pumps as a treatment for erectile dysfunction or impotence. ED pumps or penis pumps can be expensive depending on the vendor visited, but the initial cost of purchase is the only cost associated with the penis pumps or ED pumps. Erectile dysfunction is caused by the blood vessels either staying constricted and not allowing blood through, or staying relaxed and not holding the blood in the engorged penis for an erection to take place. A pump is made of a tube, pump and constriction bands. The bands are placed on the penis and the penis is then inserted into the tube and the pump used. The pump removes air from the tube, therefore forcing the blood into the penis and constricting the vessels to hold it in place, creating an erection.

Symptoms of erectile dysfunction include the inability to keep an erection or gain one. There can be underlying illnesses that cause the erectile dysfunction; therefore it is recommended that a physician be sought for further testing and treatment options. Erectile dysfunction symptoms do not include pain during sexual intercourse or ejaculation, or premature ejaculation. A checklist to go over with your physician will help you to understand if you are experiencing erectile dysfunction. It is considered within normal ranges to have a problem getting or keeping an erection about 20% of the time at any age. If you have depression, kidney disease, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol or diabetes you should talk to your doctor. If you smoke, use drugs or drink alcohol regularly and exercise rarely you should also talk to a physician about your erectile dysfunction possibilities. Stress is commonly a factor for men of all ages, and therefore if you are stressed regularly, this can also lead to erectile dysfunction. For testing for ED, contact your physician directly.
