Erectile Dysfunction Medication Side Effects

Impotence or erectile dysfunction has a few different medications that are used to treat the condition. Impotence is not something that only affects older men, as younger men who are under severe stress or depression can also have this condition. Erectile dysfunction or impotence has many causes including smoking, obesity, depression or anxiety as well as atherosclerosis or even an enlarged prostate. Treatments include penis pumps or ED pumps and medication. Along with medication, the penis pumps or ED pumps can be used without consequence.

Impotence medications include Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. These are the only approved medicinal treatments for impotence or erectile dysfunction. All these medications work the same basic way, but Cialis tends to last longer than the others. Viagra is taken without food once a day, the same as Levitra. Cialis can be taken with or without food once a day for impotence. All should be taken a minimum of 30 minutes before sex, and Viagra and Levitra work up to 4 hours whereas Cialis can be used for up to 36 hours total.

Side effects are not related to ED pumps or penis pumps when it comes to impotence, making them a safer alternative to drugs. However, the above mentioned medications each have side effects that can make them unsafe for certain men. If a man has had a recent heart attack or angina during sex as well as heart failure or arrhythmias, this medicine should not be taken. If a man has high or low blood pressure that is not controlled, a history in the last 6 months of stroke also can cause problems. If a male has leukemia or sickle cell anemia; any health problem that can cause erections that will not go away called priapism can be a problem on this medication. These medicines have interactions with other drugs so it is important to only take this under a physician’s care.
